Police Dispatch Center

The police dispatcher is usually your first contact with any police department.  Our dispatchers are responsible for answering emergency 911 and non-emergency telephone calls that are made within the City of Wisconsin Dells. We handle citizen walk-in complaints as well. A majority of our work involves the operation of the radio communications for the Police, Fire and EMS Departments that service the Wisconsin Dells area.  Our dispatchers are responsible for gathering and distributing information received by phone or in person, so that your problem is addressed quickly and efficiently.  We also perform assorted clerical and records keeping tasks, operate a computer system for the retrieval of Motor Vehicle Records, Criminal Histories, Wanted Individuals and access the State and National Crime Information Center for various police related tasks.  Our Police Dispatch Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist citizens.

For help in an emergency, including police, medical emergency or fire:

Call 9-1-1

When you dial 9-1-1, your call is answered by the Wisconsin Dells Police Department if you are calling from within City limits. Cell phone calls are answered by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department. Our E911 enhanced system automatically prints the address and telephone number from where you are calling onto the dispatcher's screen. Citizens with hearing and speech impairments can directly reach 9-1-1 through a TDD answering service installed into the E911 software.

The dispatcher will answer your call by saying:
"9-1-1, what is your emergency?"

State the problem or emergency first, then give the location of the incident. The dispatcher will start the appropriate Fire Department or Police Division en route while obtaining any additional information. If it is safe to do so, stay on the phone until the dispatcher is finished determining the nature of your emergency and until you are told to hang up. Remember to speak slowly and clearly so the dispatcher can get the correct information.

For all other non-emergency circumstances:

Call 608-253-1611

For all other non-emergency circumstances requiring a police officer such as a non-injury automobile accident or to report a property crime, or to ask for general information, please call 608-253-1611.
